Navigating the Prison Tower: How Players Can Locate the Carpenter’s Crane in Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse

Players diving into the atmospheric world of Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse are currently encountering a notoriously tricky navigational puzzle at the top of the Prison Tower. As part of the journey to confront the Warrior—one of the initial boss encounters required to clear the path and open the vital gate leading to the catacombs—explorers must master a complex sequence of environmental traversal. While navigating the lower floors relies heavily on manipulating adjacent buildings to lower gates that function as platforms and swinging points, the Upper Tower demands a different approach entirely, forcing players to look beyond standard acrobatic maneuvers to reach the Roof of the Tower where the boss awaits.

The Prison Tower itself is situated within the expansive Paris Streets map. To locate it, players must head north from the Gate to the Catacombs before traveling west. Although a large portion of the tower is immediately open to exploration, the path leading directly to the doorway of the Roof of the Tower remains blocked off by design. Game developers Konami and Evil Empire have structured this area to test player observation and spatial awareness, making it clear that standard movement abilities alone will not suffice to bridge the final gap. Instead, progression hinges on discovering and utilizing a hidden carpenter’s crane.

Uncovering the secret behind this obstacle begins with gathering crucial intelligence from a spectral inhabitant residing in the western sector of the Upper Tower. Players can reach this area by swinging across a pair of western yellow anchors and climbing up to a platform housing an operational lever. The spirit waits just above this mechanism, though reaching it requires navigating a treacherous path on the left filled with environmental hazards. By rapidly leaping back and forth between adjacent walls to gain elevation, players can propel themselves toward a compact platform tucked into the far-left corner of the room. From there, a carefully timed descent and whip swing toward a purple anchor on the left, followed by a transition to a matching anchor on the right, successfully brings the player to the spirit’s location.

Upon conversing with the spirit, players are granted insight into the carpenter’s crane, accompanied by a sketch detailing an anchor mechanism that must be pulled to clear the path toward the crane itself. However, deciphering this sketch within the broader context of the Paris Streets map presents its own distinct challenge, leading many explorers to search more widely across the region’s interlocking structures.

For those who have learned about the crane from the spirit but find themselves struggling to pinpoint its exact location, the answer lies on the northeastern portion of the Prison Tower map. Successfully reaching the crane requires backtracking to the lower tiers of the tower and positioning oneself on the exact same level as the Mirror of Life room. From there, players must travel west and, before stepping back inside the tower proper, utilize a purple anchor to launch from the wall toward a nearby yellow anchor. Swinging back toward the tower allows access to a higher purple anchor, which ultimately deposits the player onto a secure platform overlooking the surrounding architecture.

Positioned to the right of this platform lies another yellow anchor. By deploying the whip to swing across, players encounter a final yellow anchor distinguished by a wooden hexagon suspended directly above it. Interacting with this specific anchor by swinging from it three times successfully triggers the mechanism, opening the heavy door that shields the carpenter’s crane. Boarding the crane provides the necessary transit to reach the upper doorway, finally granting access to the Roof of the Tower and setting the stage for the impending showdown with the Warrior.
