Peacock Greenlights Fast & Furious TV Series to Premiere Alongside Final Movie Fast Forever

The multibillion-dollar Fast & Furious franchise may be preparing for its final theatrical lap, but Universal Pictures and its streaming home, Peacock, have made it clear that the high-octane automotive universe still has plenty of fuel left in the tank. Following months of speculation and early teases from franchise patriarch Vin Diesel, Peacock has officially greenlit a live-action television series set to expand the iconic blockbuster world.

The announcement, confirmed by industry reports, outlines an ambitious rollout strategy that aims to bring the new television series to streaming screens in 2028. The network is deliberately timing the series premiere to coincide with the theatrical release of the franchise’s final cinematic chapter, Fast Forever, which is currently slated to hit theaters on March 17, 2028.

Behind the scenes, the television project has already secured its creative leadership. Television veterans Mike Daniels—whose writing and producing credits include gritty dramas such as Sons of Anarchy and Shades of Blue—and Wolfe Coleman, known for Shades of Blue and 9-1-1: Lone Star, have been tapped to write the pilot episode. The duo will also serve as showrunners and executive producers, steering the narrative direction of the sprawling franchise as it transitions from the big screen to episodic television.

Vin Diesel, who has spent more than two decades shaping the identity of the cinematic series through his portrayal of street racer turned international operative Dominic Toretto, is attached to the project as an executive producer. Diesel initially hinted that a television spin-off was in early development during a social media update earlier in the year, but Peacock’s official greenlight solidifies the network’s commitment to the property.

As of press time, neither Peacock nor the production team has confirmed whether Diesel will reprise his iconic role as Dominic Toretto on the small screen. Industry observers note that the actor’s potential on-screen involvement may depend heavily on the narrative fate of his character in Fast Forever, the movie billed as the definitive conclusion to the primary film saga.

What We Know About Fast Forever

The journey toward the end of the road has been notably lengthy for the blockbuster franchise. It has been more than three years since Fast X roared into theaters and left audiences hanging on a dramatic cliffhanger. While Fast Forever has faced multiple scheduling adjustments and delays during its development cycle, Diesel has assured fans that the production timeline is finally locking into place. According to the star, the film is scheduled to officially enter principal photography this coming December.

Louis Leterrier, who stepped into the director’s chair for Fast X, is returning to helm Fast Forever, ensuring visual continuity and stylistic consistency for the cinematic finale. The screenplay for the final film has been penned by Michael Lesslie, whose previous writing credits include The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Diesel has expressed immense enthusiasm for Lesslie’s script, describing it to fans as the single best screenplay he has read in decades and revealing that reading the material actually moved him to tears.

While plot details for Fast Forever remain tightly guarded under studio security, the film is expected to reunite a significant portion of the core ensemble cast that has defined the series for years. Alongside Vin Diesel, franchise mainstays Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, and Ludacris are all widely anticipated to reprise their long-running roles as members of Dominic Toretto’s tight-knit family.

Furthermore, the expansive mythology established in previous entries leaves plenty of room for major character returns. The post-credits sequences of Fast X specifically teased the high-profile returns of Gisele Yashar, played by Gal Gadot, and federal agent Luke Hobbs, portrayed by Dwayne Johnson, hinting at a massive convergence of characters for the grand finale.

One of the most delicate and heavily discussed aspects surrounding the conclusion of the franchise involves the legacy of the late Paul Walker, whose character, Brian O’Conner, remains an emotional cornerstone of the series. Vin Diesel has previously stated that one of his primary conditions for concluding the cinematic saga was finding a tasteful way to reunite Dom and Brian. Caleb Walker, who previously stepped in as a body double alongside his brother Cody to help complete Paul Walker’s remaining scenes in Furious 7, weighed in on the prospect of a return in past interviews. He expressed openness to the idea while emphasizing the immense care required, noting that any such endeavor would demand extensive thought and absolute adherence to tasteful execution.

With production set to ramp up in December and the dual rollout of the theatrical film and the Peacock television series planned for 2028, Universal is preparing for a massive multi-platform farewell to one of the most successful and enduring action franchises in modern cinema history.
