APNIC Progresses Comprehensive Resource Delegation Review Program into Q3 2026

The Asia-Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC) has continued to make steady progress on its ambitious resource delegation review program throughout the third quarter of 2026, providing a detailed update on its milestones and upcoming phases at the recent APNIC 62 conference. The extensive initiative, designed to safeguard the integrity of regional internet number resources, focuses on reviewing a decade’s worth of IPv4 resource delegations and transfers handled by both APNIC and individual National Internet Registries (NIRs).

At its core, the primary objective of the program is to ensure that all historical and ongoing address allocations remain strictly compliant with established address policies. By systematically auditing these delegations over a comprehensive 10-year timeline, APNIC aims to maintain transparency, accountability, and operational accuracy across the entire Asia-Pacific region’s digital infrastructure.

During the third quarter of 2026, the organization achieved several critical operational milestones. Among the most notable updates shared at APNIC 62 was the completion of the initial data reviews for the Indian Registry for Internet Names and Numbers (IRINN) and the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC). The results stemming from the IRINN review were formally transmitted to IRINN and the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) in September, marking a significant step forward in bilateral verification. Meanwhile, APNIC has indicated that it expects to share the parallel findings of the CNNIC review with the registry in October, allowing for subsequent review and remediation phases.

In tandem with these developments, work is actively underway on other regional registries. The final data review for Indonesia Network Information Center (IDNIC) has progressed significantly. This particular phase covers the remaining five-year period that was deliberately excluded from IDNIC’s initial delegation review, ensuring a complete and unbroken audit trail for the registry. Furthermore, the analysis of APNIC’s own internal registry data officially commenced in September, bringing the organization’s proprietary allocations under the same rigorous standard of review applied to external partners.

Collaboration remains a cornerstone of the review program. APNIC is currently working in close cooperation with VNNIC, IDNIC, and now IRINN to carefully evaluate their respective delegation review results. This collaborative phase is vital for filtering out anomalies, resolving discrepancies, and eliminating any false positives that may have emerged during the automated and manual data-gathering stages.

While these ongoing evaluations continue, notable headway has already been achieved across other jurisdictions. Reviews for the Taiwan Network Information Center (TWNIC), the Korea Network Information Center (KRNIC), and the Japan Network Information Center (JPNIC) have all been successfully completed, providing a solid foundation of compliant data within those regions.

Looking ahead, APNIC has established an aggressive yet structured timeline for the remainder of the program. The organization’s stated aim is to have all regional reviews either fully completed or securely handed over to the respective NIRs for final checking and remediation by the end of 2026. Following this milestone, APNIC hopes to officially conclude the comprehensive program in early 2017, at which point the final, comprehensive results will be shared transparently with the broader internet community.

Nevertheless, organizers acknowledge that the lifecycle of the program will extend slightly beyond its formal conclusion. It is fully expected that certain remediation activities—particularly those involving complex adjustments or policy alignments—may remain ongoing even after the primary review program has wrapped up.

To ensure that stakeholders and community members remain fully informed throughout the process, APNIC continues to maintain a dedicated web page where comprehensive information regarding the resource delegation audit program is centrally stored. The community will receive its next official status update regarding the program’s progression in December 2026, as APNIC moves closer to the final stages of this extensive regional audit.
