MUMBAI, India — The Asia-Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC) officially welcomed delegates to Mumbai, India, for the APNIC 62 conference. The regional internet registry expressed its gratitude to the local host, the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI), along with the co-host, the Internet Service Providers Association of India (ISPAI), and the various corporate and institutional sponsors supporting the multi-day gathering of internet engineers, network operators, policy makers, and technology leaders.
As internet infrastructure across the region continues to experience rapid expansion and technological transformation, APNIC 62 has curated a comprehensive program designed to address the pressing operational, security, and governance challenges faced by network professionals today. Over the coming days, attendees will have access to a wide array of technical sessions, security forums, special interest group meetings, and collaborative workshops tailored to the evolving needs of the Asia-Pacific internet community.
Program Highlights
The dense and varied conference program features three core technical sessions, alongside two specialized security sessions hosted in collaboration with the Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams (FIRST). Additionally, participants can engage in dedicated discussions focused on IPv6 deployment strategies, which remain critical for the continued growth and scalability of the global internet. Community engagement is also a prominent theme, highlighted by a community consultation session dedicated to exploring ways to increase diversity within community leadership roles. Two Birds of a Feather (BoF) sessions will provide open forums for emerging discussions, complemented by regular meetings of the Special Interest Groups (SIGs).
For delegates looking to deepen their technical skills, the schedule includes specialized tutorials. These cover practical subjects such as KINDNS and DNSSEC for domain name system security, as well as Suricata deployment for threat detection within Internet Service Provider (ISP) and Internet Exchange Point (IXP) environments.
The official Opening Ceremony set a forward-looking tone for the conference with keynote addresses from prominent industry figures. Amajit Gupta, Group CEO and Managing Director of Lightstorm, delivered a presentation titled "The autonomous grid: Driving zero-touch network operations with smart networks," exploring how automation and intelligent systems are reshaping infrastructure management. Following him, Yukako Uchida, Manager of the Global Coordination Division at JPCERT/CC and a FIRST Board member, addressed delegates on "Trust as infrastructure: The human side of cybersecurity," emphasizing the critical role of human collaboration and trust in maintaining robust digital defenses.

Grow Your Professional Network
Beyond the structured technical and policy sessions, APNIC 62 provides extensive networking opportunities designed to foster collaboration among regional peers. Participants can connect during the Opening Social, the Meet the Executive Council (EC) social event, and the Closing Social, alongside numerous informal networking moments throughout the conference venue.
Organizers have encouraged attendees to share their experiences and insights on social media using the official hashtag #APNIC62, allowing remote participants and fellow delegates to follow the conversations taking place in Mumbai. A dedicated social media toolkit has been made available to assist attendees in sharing conference highlights.
Specialized programming has also been established for individuals who are new to the conference circuit or early in their professional careers. The Newcomers Welcome session and the NextGen BoF—focused on helping emerging professionals plot their career paths—are designed to help first-time attendees navigate the event and build foundational connections within the industry. To ensure participants remain informed about logistical updates and schedule changes in real-time, organizers have established an official APNIC 62 WhatsApp channel.
Cast Your Vote
Democratic participation remains a cornerstone of the APNIC community model, and the conference coincides with important governance milestones. Online voting for the Number Resource Organization Number Council (NRO NC) is underway, with polls scheduled to close on Thursday, 10 September 2026. Eligible APNIC Members and registered conference participants who meet the established voting criteria have the opportunity to cast their ballots online prior to the deadline.
Participate in the Open Policy Meeting
A central component of the conference is the Open Policy Meeting (OPM), scheduled for 10 September 2026. The forum serves as the primary venue for discussing and refining policies governing internet number resource management in the Asia-Pacific region. Seven distinct policy proposals are slated for discussion during this session.

Members of the community who wish to contribute to the policy development process can do so by subscribing to the Policy SIG mailing list or by participating directly, either in person at the venue or remotely through virtual conferencing tools, during the APNIC 62 Policy SIG forum.
APNIC Services
For attendees requiring direct assistance with their internet number resources or APNIC account administration, the APNIC Lounge is operating throughout the conference. The space provides a dedicated environment for delegates to engage in one-on-one consultations or schedule confidential discussions with members of the APNIC Services team.
Conference organizers advise arriving early on the first day to collect registration badges and complete check-in procedures. Staff members stationed throughout the venue, as well as personnel at the APNIC Lounge, remain available to address any questions or operational issues that may arise during the event.
