Strategy, the prominent enterprise software company turned premier bitcoin treasury vehicle, is asking its shareholders to approve a novel shift that would pay investors daily dividends on four of its preferred stock offerings.
The corporate giant, recognized as the single largest institutional holder of bitcoin in the corporate world, revealed on Friday that it is officially seeking shareholder approval to implement daily payouts. Under the proposed framework, investors holding STRF, STRC, STRK, and STRD would accrue dividends every single calendar day—spanning weekends and public holidays—with the payments distributed on the subsequent business day while keeping the underlying economics unchanged.
"If approved and adopted, we believe this would reduce reinvestment lag, enhance liquidity and market efficiency, and increase price stability," Strategy stated in an official company release.
Stockholders are scheduled to convene for a formal vote to decide on the proposal during a special meeting slated for October 28. Executive chairman and bitcoin evangelist Michael Saylor also brought attention to the initiative on social media platform X, highlighting that the sweeping changes are designed to support price stability, broader liquidity, and sustained market demand for the digital credit instruments.
The structural pivot arrives during a challenging period for the firm’s aggressive accumulation strategy. Over the course of the year, Strategy slowed down its famously heavy purchases of bitcoin as the premier cryptocurrency slipped into a protracted bear market. Rather than maintaining its unyielding weekly buying schedule, the Nasdaq-listed corporation shifted its immediate operational focus toward bolstering its balance sheet, a defensive maneuver that even included offloading portions of its bitcoin reserves to navigate market headwinds.
Despite these defensive adjustments, Friday’s corporate announcement emphasized that the transition to daily dividend accruals will deliver mutual benefits for both preferred holders and common stockholders alike.
"We believe these enhancements can also benefit our common stockholders by increasing the attractiveness and utility of our Digital Credit instruments, supporting our ability to access preferred equity capital efficiently and expanding the capital markets toolkit we use to execute our Bitcoin Treasury strategy," the company elaborated in its statement.
Strategy, formerly operating under the moniker MicroStrategy, was originally founded as an enterprise business intelligence software firm. However, the corporate landscape shifted dramatically for the company in 2020 when leadership decided to fundamentally pivot its corporate treasury reserve asset into bitcoin. The bold move was initially conceived as a strategic hedge to protect corporate shareholders from macroeconomic inflation and purchasing power erosion.
Over the ensuing years, the firm doubled down on that initial thesis, transforming entirely into a dedicated bitcoin treasury development company. Today, retail and institutional investors alike utilize the company’s publicly traded shares to gain heightened, indirect exposure to the digital asset market, or alternatively, to collect regular yields distributed via the firm’s specialized digital credit products.
Historically, the treasury playbook involved reliable purchases of the cryptocurrency every single Monday. However, that relentless cadence faced adjustments after the firm instituted a flexible capital management program. Under this operational framework, Strategy reserved the option to periodically sell portions of its bitcoin holdings to generate up to $1.25 billion in fiat proceeds. These funds were earmarked to fortify USD reserves, service preferred stock dividends, cover interest expenses, and fund future share repurchases.
Demonstrating that the core treasury vision remains active despite broader market corrections, Strategy disclosed in a regulatory filing on Monday that it successfully acquired 950 bitcoins last week for a total cash outlay of $75.7 million. The purchase marked the company’s first notable addition to its treasury stash since August, signaling a measured return to accumulation even as broader market conditions remain complex.
The macroeconomic pressures of the crypto bear market have undeniably impacted the firm’s equity valuation. Strategy’s Nasdaq-listed stock, trading under the ticker MSTR, has suffered a decline of nearly 50% over the past year as the spot price of bitcoin took a severe downward turn.
Yet, when viewed through a broader historical lens, the transformation has yielded historic gains. Ever since the company embarked on its pioneering bitcoin acquisition journey in 2020, MSTR shares have appreciated by nearly 1,000%, cementing its status as one of the most closely watched and unconventional corporate experiments in modern financial history.
