Meanwhile, recognized as the world’s first life insurer licensed to operate entirely in Bitcoin, has successfully raised $37.5 million in a fresh funding round from its existing investors, marking a significant milestone for the firm as it scales its operations to meet international demand.
Bain Capital Crypto spearheaded the financing round, with meaningful participation coming from a powerhouse roster of venture capital and financial institutions, including Haun Ventures, Framework Ventures, Pantera Capital, Apollo, Northwestern Mutual Future Ventures, and Morgan Creek Digital. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, a notable early backer of the company, also participated in the round. With this latest injection of capital, Meanwhile’s total funding amassed since its inception has climbed to more than $180 million, cementing its position at the intersection of traditional estate planning and digital asset management.
According to company leadership, this latest funding round was triggered by a sharp and continuous surge in demand for its specialized Bitcoin life insurance policies outside of the United States. High-net-worth individuals and wealthy families across Asia, Europe, and the Middle East are increasingly turning to digital assets as a hedge against broader macroeconomic instability and currency fluctuations, creating an acute need for regulated wealth transfer mechanisms.
Zac Townsend, co-founder and CEO of Meanwhile, emphasized the structural gap in the market that the company was built to solve. Wealthy families around the world already hold substantial amounts of Bitcoin, but what they historically have lacked is a fully regulated, compliant framework to pass those generational assets on to their heirs, Townsend noted in a public statement discussing the funding. Insurance brokers came directly to Meanwhile because their clients kept asking for viable solutions, and this substantial new round of funding will enable the company to keep pace with that escalating market demand.
The capital raise follows a pivotal period of product expansion for the insurer. In early 2026, Meanwhile officially launched BTC Life 1-Pay, a single-premium whole life insurance policy tailored specifically for high-net-worth clients residing outside the United States. This offering represents the company’s second major product line, following the debut of its flagship BTC 10-Pay policy, which was originally engineered to cater to United States taxpayers seeking compliant long-term digital asset strategies.
Under the mechanics of the BTC Life 1-Pay product, a policyholder pays a single, upfront premium entirely in Bitcoin and subsequently receives a guaranteed death benefit denominated in Bitcoin for life. The underlying value of the policy compounds and grows in Bitcoin terms. Furthermore, after the completion of the first policy year, the owner gains the financial flexibility to borrow up to 90% of the policy’s value, functioning without a rigid repayment schedule and completely free from the threat of margin calls—a feature designed to offer liquidity without forcing taxable or disruptive liquidations of core digital asset holdings.
These policies can be held directly by individuals, as well as through complex corporate vehicles or trusts, a versatility that Meanwhile highlights as ideal for sophisticated succession and estate planning strategies utilized by wealthy families globally.
Since the introduction of these international offerings, Meanwhile has rapidly built out a robust distribution network, successfully signing agreements with 15 elite brokers serving affluent families across critical global financial hubs, including Singapore, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates, and Switzerland. Among its prominent distribution partners are Lioner, a multi-faceted insurance, trust, and family office group maintaining strategic offices in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Zurich, alongside Apeiron Group, a specialized marketplace dedicated to high-net-worth life insurance products.
Justin Man, CEO of Apeiron Group, pointed to a broader philosophical shift occurring among the world’s most affluent demographic sectors. The market is unmistakably reaching a critical turning point where high-net-worth clients are no longer simply asking how to securely hold Bitcoin and other digital assets, Man explained. Instead, they are actively looking for sophisticated ways to plan around those assets and ultimately transfer that accumulated wealth smoothly to the next generation without losing exposure to the underlying asset class.
Reflecting this expanding client base, Meanwhile reported that its net long-term underwriting income has already surpassed its total figures from the previous year and remains firmly on an upward trajectory to more than double throughout 2026, though the company opted to withhold specific financial disclosures.
Stefan Cohen, a partner at Bain Capital Crypto, praised the company’s unique operational architecture and rapid commercial validation. Meanwhile effectively owns every single layer of a regulated life insurer while building and scaling it with the agility of an artificial intelligence-enabled startup, Cohen observed. The extraordinary growth demonstrated throughout this year thoroughly proves the strength and viability of the business model, and his firm is proud to back them once again as they enter their next phase of growth.
The operational backbone of the enterprise is housed within its primary operating entity, Meanwhile Insurance Bitcoin (Bermuda) Limited. This corporate body holds the distinction of being the very first Class IILT license ever granted by the Bermuda Monetary Authority. The firm secured this milestone regulatory approval in July 2024 following an intensive two-year evaluation period operating inside the regulator’s specialized sandbox environment.
In keeping with its core mission of complete native digital asset integration, the insurer’s corporate balance sheet, underlying reserves, and fully audited financial statements are denominated entirely in Bitcoin. To ensure the highest standards of safety and institutional compliance, all policyholder Bitcoin assets are securely maintained with trusted, heavily regulated institutional custodians.
