APNIC Continues Progress on Comprehensive Resource Delegation Review Program into Q3 2026

APNIC has provided a comprehensive update on the ongoing progression of its resource delegation review program during the third quarter of 2026, sharing key milestones with the technical community at the APNIC 62 conference. The extensive audit program, which serves as a cornerstone for maintaining the integrity of Internet number resource management across the Asia-Pacific region, is steadily moving through its scheduled phases with several National Internet Registries reaching critical review milestones.

The primary objective of this expansive program is to conduct a thorough and systematic review of all IPv4 resource delegations and transfers made by every National Internet Registry (NIR) as well as APNIC itself over a comprehensive ten-year period. By examining a decade’s worth of allocations and transfers, APNIC aims to ensure that current address management practices strictly adhere to established address policies, thereby fostering transparency, accountability, and proper resource utilization across the entire regional footprint.

During the third quarter of 2026, significant operational strides were achieved regarding data evaluations for multiple regional registries. Specifically, the initial data reviews for IRINN, representing India, and CNNIC, representing China, were successfully completed during this period. The detailed findings and results stemming from the IRINN data review were officially transmitted to IRINN and its parent organization, NIXI, in September. Following this schedule, APNIC anticipates sharing the comprehensive results of the CNNIC data review directly with CNNIC officials in October.

Concurrently, work is advancing on other registry evaluations. The final data review for IDNIC, which covers the crucial five-year span that was intentionally excluded from the initial IDNIC delegation review, is currently underway. Furthermore, the analysis of APNIC’s own internal registry data officially commenced in September, marking another important step toward completing the broad regional audit.

As these technical evaluations progress, APNIC maintains a strong emphasis on collaborative verification. The organization continues to work closely and cooperatively with VNNIC, IDNIC, and now IRINN to carefully evaluate their respective delegation review results, resolve discrepancies, and eliminate any false positives that may emerge during automated or manual data checks. These rigorous validation steps are essential for ensuring that the final outcomes accurately reflect operational realities. Meanwhile, similar comprehensive reviews for TWNIC, KRNIC, and JPNIC have already been fully completed.

Looking ahead toward the conclusion of the program, APNIC has established clear operational timelines. The organization aims to have all regional registry reviews either fully completed, or currently positioned with the respective NIRs for final checking and necessary remediation, by the end of 2026. Following this milestone phase, APNIC hopes to formally conclude the overarching review program in early 2027, at which point the comprehensive results will be shared transparently with the broader Internet community.

While the formal review program is scheduled to wrap up in early 2027, organizers anticipate that certain remediation activities and follow-up adjustments may naturally remain ongoing as registries address any identified policy discrepancies.

For stakeholders and community members seeking detailed documentation, comprehensive information regarding the scope, methodology, and objectives of the resource delegation review program is maintained on a dedicated web page hosted by APNIC. The organization remains committed to keeping the community fully informed of its progress, with the next scheduled community update slated for delivery in December 2026, where further details regarding the final stages of the multi-year review will be presented.
