The Asia-Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC) has continued to make significant headway in its comprehensive resource delegation review program throughout the third quarter of 2026, providing a detailed update on its progress to the regional internet community during the APNIC 62 conference.
The ambitious program, which serves as a cornerstone for maintaining the integrity and accountability of internet number resource distribution across the region, is designed to systematically examine all IPv4 resource delegations and transfers managed by both APNIC and individual National Internet Registries (NIRs). Covering a rigorous 10-year historical window, the primary objective of this expansive audit initiative is to ensure that all participating entities maintain strict compliance with established global and regional address policies.
During the third quarter of 2026, the initiative reached several critical operational milestones, particularly concerning data reviews for multiple regional registries. Initial data reviews for IRINN (the Indian Registry for Internet Names and Numbers) and CNNIC (the China Internet Network Information Center) were successfully completed over the quarter. Following the completion of the IRINN review, comprehensive results were formally communicated to IRINN and its parent organization, NIXI, in September. Meanwhile, APNIC confirmed that it anticipates sharing the findings of the CNNIC review with the registry in October, maintaining a transparent channel of communication throughout the evaluation process.
Simultaneously, work progressed on other registry fronts. The final data review for IDNIC, which covers the remaining five-year period that was not captured in the initial IDNIC delegation review, is currently underway. Furthermore, the analysis of APNIC’s own internal registry data officially commenced in September, ensuring that the organization applies the same stringent compliance standards to the resources it manages directly.
As the program moves deeper into its operational phases, collaboration between APNIC and various NIRs remains a vital component of ensuring data accuracy. APNIC is continuing to work closely with VNNIC, IDNIC, and now IRINN to carefully evaluate their respective delegation review results. This collaborative engagement is essential for identifying and eliminating any false positives that may arise during automated data processing, thereby ensuring that compliance reports are accurate and fair. These ongoing verification efforts follow the successful completion of earlier reviews for TWNIC, KRNIC, and JPNIC, which have already passed through initial evaluation stages.
Looking ahead toward the conclusion of the program, APNIC has outlined a clear timeline for the remaining phases. The organization’s stated goal is to have all regional reviews either fully completed or handed over to the respective NIRs for final checking and necessary remediation by the end of 2026. Following this milestone, APNIC hopes to officially conclude the comprehensive review program in early 2017, at which point the final results will be compiled and shared broadly with the wider internet community.
While the formal review program is slated to wrap up in early 2017, organizers note that certain remediation activities may inevitably extend beyond the official conclusion of the program as registries address and resolve any identified discrepancies.
To maintain transparency and provide ongoing visibility into the audit process, APNIC continues to host detailed information regarding the resource delegation review program on a dedicated web page. The organization remains committed to keeping stakeholders informed of its progress, with the next formal update scheduled to be delivered to the community in December 2026, marking another step in the continuous stewardship of the Asia-Pacific region’s critical internet infrastructure.
