The artificial intelligence landscape is increasingly flooded with personal and productivity-based assistants, with new iterations launching nearly every week to capture shifting consumer and enterprise habits. Into this fiercely competitive market steps Anthropic, hoping to secure substantial user attention with the launch of a new application called Claude Duet. This system is explicitly designed to rival a growing cohort of autonomous agents, including Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots, Hark, Instinct, Grok Bot, and Fo.
Anthropic is positioning its new agent to cater specifically to professionals and small businesses, helping them streamline operations by automating and managing recurring workflows. In doing so, the company is drawing a sharp distinction between Duet and consumer-centric personal agents like Instinct. Anthropic notes that Duet is not designed for everyday errands or booking tickets, nor does it feature a live-streamed view of its browser usage as actions unfold. Instead, Duet focuses squarely on workplace efficiency, capable of assembling a comprehensive daily briefing for users, constructing customized dashboards, or proactively suggesting actionable steps derived directly from the user’s data.
Like many competing agentic systems hitting the market, Duet operates asynchronously, completing tasks in the background through its own dedicated virtual machine while the user focuses on other priorities, returning only when it requires human approval to proceed. This launch arrives precisely as the broader tech industry shifts its focus beyond simple chat-based AI assistants to sophisticated agents capable of executing complex workflows on users’ behalf. Many of Anthropic’s chief rivals are similarly targeting business use cases. While Meta’s Muse functions primarily as a personal AI assistant, the tech giant also rolled out a version tailored specifically for small businesses, complete with deep connections to other enterprise applications. OpenAI’s Dots maintains a similar professional slant through its tight integration with various workplace tools.
Built on top of Anthropic’s advanced Claude Opus 5.5 model, Duet can connect seamlessly to more than 6,000 connectors and plugins available within the Claude Marketplace. Furthermore, the agent possesses the capability to execute online purchases on behalf of users by integrating with digital wallets such as Stripe’s Link and Shopify’s Shop Pay.
Anthropic emphasizes that sensitive milestones, such as financial transactions and payments, will consistently require explicit user approval before execution. However, the company has placed strict guardrails on the application, noting that Duet will not trade securities or move money between bank accounts. To further reinforce safety and security, Anthropic has introduced a novel classifier designed to vet every message in real time, preventing sensitive information from leaking out of the ecosystem. By default, the agent is programmed to reject requests that ask for credit card numbers and government identification documents.
Claude Duet is currently available as a dedicated application on both iOS and Android platforms, as well as on the web via Claude.ai. For now, the rollout is limited to Pro and Max customers participating in a research preview, and interested users must join a waitlist to secure access.
