SkyAI Sells Entire Solana Treasury, Launches $201.3M Share and Warrant Buyback

SkyAI, formerly known as Sharps Technology, has officially parted ways with its cryptocurrency accumulation strategy by selling its entire Solana (SOL) treasury. Alongside the complete liquidation of its digital assets, the company has launched a massive tender offer aimed at repurchasing up to $201.3 million in its own shares and warrants.

According to a regulatory filing submitted to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Monday, SkyAI held approximately $223.8 million in cash as of Oct. 16, following the total liquidation of its SOL holdings. The tender offer gives current shareholders and warrant holders the opportunity to sell their securities directly back to the company at a fixed price. The initiative covers up to 95% of each class of the company’s outstanding shares and warrants, with the entire buyback program funded directly by the cash currently sitting on the firm’s balance sheet.

The company clarified that the tender offer is no longer tied to the fluctuating price of Solana, a condition that management had initially planned to include when they first announced the prospective buyback program on Oct. 11. Despite dropping its crypto treasury model, SkyAI indicated that it has no intention of abandoning the blockchain sector entirely. The firm stated that it intends to continue developing a specialized financial platform that combines stablecoin infrastructure operating on the Solana network with artificial intelligence capabilities.

Investor reaction to the strategic pivot appeared cautiously optimistic in early market trading. SkyAI shares closed Monday’s trading session at $2.79, marking a 5.3% increase for the day, according to market data from Yahoo Finance. Over the past month, the company’s stock has enjoyed a notable rebound, gaining approximately 65%. However, a broader view of its financial trajectory shows that the stock remains down by about 41% over the course of the past year, reflecting the turbulent journey the company has experienced through shifting market cycles and corporate restructuring.

SkyAI Reverses Solana Treasury Strategy After One Year

Solana treasury firm SkyAI sells all SOL holdings, launches $201M buyback

The dramatic liquidation marks a definitive end to SkyAI’s aggressive push into corporate cryptocurrency holdings, a strategy it originally embraced just over a year prior. The firm had launched its Solana treasury model in August 2025 after successfully raising more than $400 million through a private placement. Riding high on the initial capital injection, the company moved quickly to acquire more than 2 million SOL tokens the following month, establishing a corporate treasury position that was valued at well over $400 million at the time of purchase.

However, the strategy soon encountered severe macroeconomic and market headwinds as digital asset prices corrected sharply. By the end of 2025, SkyAI held approximately 2.08 million SOL tokens with an aggregate cost basis of $403.1 million, which translated to a high average acquisition cost of roughly $194 per token. As market valuations plummeted, the value of those holdings dwindled to $250.1 million. This staggering drop left the company staring at approximately $153 million in unrealized losses, figures that were clearly detailed in its annual financial disclosures filed with regulators.

SkyAI was far from alone in feeling the pain of the market downturn. The company’s mounting losses mirrored a broader wave of financial pressure experienced by numerous publicly traded firms that had adopted aggressive SOL accumulation strategies for their corporate treasuries. By February 2026, corporate entities holding Solana collectively faced more than $1.5 billion in combined unrealized losses. The severe depreciation of the native token heavily weighed down their overall corporate holdings and forced significant downward equity repricing across the board.

The downward pressure on the token was intense during the worst of the bear cycle. SOL prices slumped significantly, touching a low of around $62 in June. Nevertheless, the digital asset has since mounted a notable recovery, gradually climbing back up to trade near the $104 mark as of Monday, according to market data provided by CoinGecko.

For SkyAI, the decision to cash out at the current market recovery point allows the company to cut its historical exposure to extreme crypto volatility while locking in a substantial cash reserve of over $223 million. By funneling a large portion of that capital back into its equity base through the $201.3 million tender offer, management is seeking to provide immediate liquidity and value to shareholders who weathered the dramatic swings of the past year, while simultaneously pivoting its corporate focus toward its emerging AI and stablecoin infrastructure platform.
