Meta Doubles Down on Personal AI With Major Expansion of Muse at Annual Connect Event

Just weeks after its initial debut, Meta’s personal AI agent, Muse, is taking center stage as the social networking giant makes its most aggressive play yet into the consumer artificial intelligence market.

At the company’s annual Connect event held in Menlo Park on Wednesday, CEO Mark Zuckerberg took the stage to signal that Meta is going all-in on the new technology. Stepping up to the keynote podium wearing khakis and a black T-shirt emblazoned with the phrase "Building is My Love Language," Zuckerberg laid out a grand vision for the future of the platform, positioning the software as the cornerstone of the company’s ongoing technological evolution.

The Muse agent, whose physical avatar has been dubbed "Jolly" by the executive team, is engineered to handle complex everyday tasks by seamlessly connecting to a user’s existing applications and digital services, including email clients and digital calendars. Throughout the keynote presentation, Zuckerberg and his leadership team introduced a sweeping array of new capabilities and integrations designed to weave Muse deeper into the fabric of daily life. According to the company’s roadmap, the agent is intended to be ubiquitous, operating across devices and even extending its reach into Meta’s line of smart glasses.

Launched publicly in early September, Muse is designed to interact fluidly across a user’s various devices and digital accounts. The underlying intelligence driving the software is Muse Spark, a multimodal AI model built specifically from the ground up for agentic work. Meta executives have heavily promoted the model as a more accessible alternative to competing agent platforms, pitching it as an immediate helper capable of automating mundane daily tasks right out of the box.

"The centerpiece of our vision for what we’re building is Muse," Zuckerberg told the audience of developers, media, and industry partners during his opening remarks. "In the coming years, I expect that Muse is going to grow into the personal superintelligence that billions of people around the world are used to accomplish their goals and improve their lives."

Beyond simply saving time, Zuckerberg expressed a firm belief that Muse will eventually generate tangible economic value for its users—and, in the long run, for Meta itself. The company plans to foster widespread adoption by keeping the barrier to entry remarkably low.

"We’re standing behind this by making Muse free for a huge number of tokens, with the expectation that over time we will profit by taking a small fee from transactions," Zuckerberg explained, outlining the long-term monetization strategy for the platform.

Muse Gets Its Own Digital Avatar

Everything new coming to Meta’s AI agent Muse

In one of the more visually striking and futuristic announcements of the day, Meta revealed that users will soon be able to generate a distinct digital avatar for their personal AI agent and engage in real-time video chats with it. This interactive capability is powered by a newly developed AI model called Muse Realtime Avatar, according to company disclosures.

The development represents a significant step away from faceless, text-based software helpers. By giving the AI a recognizable face, a physical body, and a synthetic voice, Meta aims to make human-computer interaction feel considerably more personable and intuitive. The feature, which carries subtle echoes of the company’s broader metaverse ambitions, was demonstrated live on stage at Connect, showcasing how users will be able to converse naturally with their avatar to delegate tasks and pose complex questions.

This expansive accessibility will also extend to hardware. Meta announced that Muse is being deeply integrated into its smart glasses ecosystem, allowing users to converse with their personal agent entirely through voice commands while on the move. Activated by a simple wake word, the agent can provide personalized workout routines, log daily meals, coordinate appointments, and even assist with purchasing products encountered in the physical world.

Meta noted that Muse is designed to operate asynchronously in the background, executing long-term tasks independently and checking back in with the user once the work is completed. While precise release schedules remain somewhat flexible, company representatives indicated that these integrated features are slated to roll out to the public in the coming months.

Soon, You’ll Be Able to Let Muse Run Your Mac

Meta is also dramatically expanding the operational boundaries of its AI software by bringing Muse-driven computer work directly to Apple’s macOS. Building upon earlier previews of the software’s capabilities, Meta executives used Wednesday’s event to provide a comprehensive look at how the agent will interact with desktop environments.

Under this system, users can delegate multi-step administrative or creative workflows to the agent. Much like advanced AI agents introduced by industry competitors such as OpenAI and Anthropic, Muse is capable of autonomously operating virtually any standard application on a user’s desktop interface.

"You can have it help you run your small business, or just get work done for you," said Meta’s Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang during the keynote presentation. "You can walk away from your computer and it keeps working for you on all the jobs you lined up."

Muse Will Get Its Own Email Address

Because Muse is engineered to function continuously as a background worker, Meta recognized the logistical necessity of giving the agent its own dedicated communication channel. Wang announced during the presentation that the company is actively developing a dedicated email address feature for Muse, which will become available to users in the near future.

The addition will allow users to CC their personal agent directly onto active email threads, or forward external messages to the agent so it can draft responses, coordinate schedules, and manage correspondence on their behalf.

To facilitate commercial capabilities, Meta has secured high-profile partnerships with major payment infrastructure providers such as Stripe and Shopify. These integrations cement the company’s view of Muse as a powerful utility for e-commerce and consumer purchasing.

According to Wang, Muse possesses the ability to access the entire Shopify product catalog agentically. Utilizing Lync and the newly integrated Shop Pay, the agent can facilitate purchases for almost any item available across the broader internet, alongside expanded payment support for PayPal.

The company also unveiled a robust roster of retail partnerships designed to bridge the AI agent with household brand names. Retail apps from Best Buy, Gap, Sephora, Walmart, and Wayfair will all be fully compatible with Muse, alongside travel services like Expedia and soon, Instacart. Additional workplace and productivity connectors include GitHub, Granola, and Notion.

In an effort to cultivate an expansive ecosystem, Meta has opened up its development platform to allow external creators to build proprietary connectors. Wang reported an enthusiastic response from the developer community, noting that the platform received more than 1,500 applications in less than a week following the initiative’s announcement.

"I think this could be a generational opportunity to start building for a new platform as it takes off, and the response so far has been really great," Wang said.
