Charlie Cox is wasting no time diving deeper into the video game industry. Following his critically acclaimed debut in video game voice work with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the Daredevil: Born Again star has already finished recording for his next major project. Speaking on Thursday at New York Comic Con, Cox revealed to attendees and press that he is starring in an upcoming, yet-to-be-announced video game published by Sega.
The project, however, nearly started with a rather amusing cultural misunderstanding. Despite his flawless American accent as Marvel’s blind vigilante Matt Murdock—a performance so convincing that many fans forget the actor is actually from London—the development team at Sega initially had an entirely different vocal profile in mind for his character.
Recounting his first day stepping into the recording booth, Cox shared the humorous exchange with the game’s creators. "I was like, ‘Hi guys, nice to meet you! How are you?’ And all of them went, ‘Oh, he’s English,’" Cox recalled during his panel appearance. The studio had originally envisioned the character as American, completely unaware of the actor’s actual British roots. "But now I’ve got to do 40 hours of lines I’ve not prepared in an accent. Yeah, I think they thought I was American."
This unexpected linguistic pivot highlights a stark contrast to Cox’s introduction to the medium. The mix-up is perhaps understandable, particularly if the team at Sega had not yet experienced Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the breakout role that first introduced the actor to interactive entertainment. For that project, Cox’s time in the recording booth was surprisingly brief. While initial reports indicated he spent around four hours recording his lines for the character Gustave, writer Jennifer Svedberg-Yen later clarified that the process took closer to eight hours.

By comparison, dedicating roughly 40 hours to recording sessions in the booth for Sega’s unannounced title strongly indicates that Cox is stepping into a much larger, more central starring role this time around.
Charlie Cox Felt Like a ‘Fraud’ After Expedition 33
The leap from an eight-hour vocal performance to a sprawling 40-hour recording commitment is substantial, especially given how humble Cox has remained regarding his initial foray into gaming. Despite the widespread acclaim he received for bringing Gustave to life in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the actor previously admitted that the intense praise made him feel like a "total fraud."
Speaking at a convention last year, Cox expressed his gratitude for the game’s massive commercial and critical success while deflecting personal credit for the character’s emotional resonance. His standout performance even earned him a nomination for Best Performance at The Game Awards, an honor he openly stated should rightfully belong elsewhere.
According to Cox, the true heavy lifting of the character’s physical presence and emotional delivery came down to motion-capture actor Maxence Cazorla. When discussing his award nomination and industry recognition, Cox insisted that any praise directed his way belongs to the physical performance team. "Any nomination or any credit I get, I really have to give to him, because I believe that the performance of that character is really down to him, and my voice was just part of that process," he explained.
With Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 continuing to capture audience attention—and facing its eventual departure from platforms like Xbox Game Pass—Cox is clearly ready to expand his footprint in the gaming space, taking on the rigorous demands of a 40-hour script and a leading role under Sega’s banner.

Looking Ahead to the Final Season of Daredevil: Born Again
While Cox is expanding his portfolio in the interactive entertainment space, his appearance at New York Comic Con was also heavily tied to his legendary television roots. The actor was in New York to promote the upcoming third season of Daredevil: Born Again, which Marvel Studios has confirmed will serve as the final season of the acclaimed revival series.
Set to premiere next spring on Disney+, the final outing of the series promises high stakes for the Man Without Fear. Most notably, the upcoming season will reunite Daredevil with the rest of the beloved Defenders, bringing together the street-level heroes for what is shaping up to be a dramatic and definitive conclusion to this chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Between wrapping up a demanding television legacy and committing dozens of hours to a secretive new Sega project, Cox remains one of the busiest and most versatile actors crossing between television and the video game industry. As details regarding Sega’s mysterious new title remain under wraps, fans of both the actor and the publisher will be watching closely for an official reveal.
