Bitcoin is currently carving out one of its most impressive quarterly performances in history, providing yet another strong indication to market participants that the world’s largest cryptocurrency has firmly re-entered a bull market. The digital asset has mounted a significant recovery, defying macroeconomic pressures, regulatory hurdles, and stubborn yields to capture the attention of traditional finance and crypto-native investors alike.
According to market observations highlighted by The Kobeissi Letter, the price of Bitcoin has surged by close to 30% since August 19. This notable upward trajectory was catalyzed when the U.S. Treasury announced plans to more than double the size of its government debt repurchases in an effort to stabilize sovereign debt markets. Over the broader course of the past quarter, Bitcoin has orchestrated a 40% price surge, marking its most robust quarterly performance since the final quarter of 2024.
Recently, Bitcoin’s price hovered near $83,698. While the asset remained relatively unmoved over a strict 24-hour window, it maintained a strong 6% gain over a broader 30-day period. This resilience underscores a growing institutional and retail appetite for decentralized assets amidst shifting global monetary policies.
The recent momentum has been heavily supported by announcements and actions from the U.S. Treasury aimed at lowering bond yields, which have previously soared to multi-decade highs not witnessed since the 2000s. Bitcoin has historically performed well in environments where long-term yields decline or are actively targeted for reduction. Lower yields effectively reduce the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding, scarce assets like Bitcoin and physical gold, while simultaneously fostering a broader risk-on sentiment across global financial markets.

However, the macroeconomic landscape remains complex. Despite the Treasury stepping in with aggressive interventions to tame the bond market, yields have stubbornly continued to stay elevated, frustrating traditional policymakers. Yet, Bitcoin investors do not appear overly perturbed by persistent yield pressures. Instead, the digital asset continues to perform exceptionally well as the U.S. dollar experiences downward pressure.
This dynamic has breathed new life into the so-called "debasement trade." In this strategy, investors aggressively allocate capital toward alternative, finite assets specifically to hedge against a national currency losing its underlying purchasing power and long-term value. The urgency behind this trade has intensified significantly following a historic milestone in July, when total U.S. national debt officially surpassed the $40 trillion threshold for the very first time.
The path to these current price levels has not been without its turbulence. Prior to its latest resurgence, the price of Bitcoin had been heavily battered after notching a new all-time high of $126,080 back in October. In the wake of that peak, the cryptocurrency suffered a steep correction, dropping by over 50%. Despite the severity of that drawdown, market analysts note that it has ultimately materialized as the shallowest bear market—so far—in Bitcoin’s entire trading history, reflecting a maturing market with deeper liquidity and broader institutional backing.
Confirming the shift in market sentiment, on-chain analytics firm CryptoQuant released a report indicating that Bitcoin is officially back in a confirmed bull market. According to the firm’s analysis, this structural shift was validated when the cryptocurrency crossed back above its 365-day moving average. In past market cycles, this specific threshold has historically served as the definitive technical signal marking the absolute start of Bitcoin’s major bull runs.
Furthermore, the cryptocurrency’s underlying strength is underscored by its ability to shrug off traditional macroeconomic headwinds and domestic political roadblocks. Bitcoin has successfully pushed higher despite the Federal Reserve maintaining high interest rates to combat inflation, as well as recent legislative setbacks that saw lawmakers block the advancement of landmark crypto legislation, known as the Clarity Act. As market participants continue to navigate these overlapping financial and regulatory crosscurrents, Bitcoin’s enduring performance highlights its increasing decoupling from traditional risk parameters.
